More and More Care Survivors

An average of 800 – 1000 kids are diagnosed with cancer in South Africa every year. Cupcakes of Hope aims to help those kids and their families as they fight to overcome childhood cancer together. Every time you purchase your favourite Giant Muffin at any Mugg & Bean restaurant or On-The-Move store countrywide, R1 is donated to Cupcakes of Hope so that they can continue to do this incredible work.

Today we’d like to introduce you to three kids who’ve fought cancer and survived with the help of Cupcakes of Hope.

Remember Tiffany? We introduced you to this brave cancer warrior back in 2019. When she was only 17 months old, she was diagnosed with brain cancer. Cupcakes of Hope stepped in and helped the family with transport, nappies, milk, and invaluable emotional support while Tiffany was receiving radiation, chemotherapy and surgeries.

Now 10 years old, Tiffany has become a proud ambassador for Cupcakes of Hope, giving inspiration to many other kids who are also fighting cancer. When you purchase a Giant Muffin, you’re donating R1 to kids like Tiffany.

DETECTION & AWARENESS

Meet Damon, an 18-year-old who is currently completing his Matric. When he was 10, he was doing what kids do best: playing and having fun. One day during a soccer game, he injured his leg.

TREATMENT

That started a string of misdiagnoses, until a family member took it into their own hands to get Damon an appointment at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital. Upon looking at Damon’s x-rays, the doctors operated and removed a tumour the next day. This was followed by a difficult 4-year-long journey with chemotherapy.

HOW CUPCAKES OF HOPE HELPED OUT

Cupcakes of Hope played a huge role in Damon’s journey, helping him emotionally accept his illness and get through the difficult treatment. Once he’s aced his Matric exams, Damon hopes to either study logistics or to become a traffic officer. When you order your favourite freshly baked Giant Muffin, you’re helping young people like Damon and hundreds others who find themselves in similar positions.

DETECTION & AWARENESS

This is Nisha, another brave childhood cancer survivor. Her diagnosis of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 16 came as a shock to her and her family because they never expected childhood cancer to affect a teen. Nisha’s mom stresses the importance of knowing the early warning signs for cancer, so that swift action can be taken to get the right treatment and support.

HOW CUPCAKES OF HOPE HELPED OUT

Cupcakes of Hope was a pillar of support for Nisha, especially when she lost her hair during the chemotherapy process, which must have been a very difficult thing for a teenage girl to have to go through. The team constantly checked up on her in hospital and visited whenever they could to lift her spirits.

But, Nisha isn’t alone. There are countless others who have similar stories. Every time you order your favourite Giant Muffin at any M&B, we’ll donate R1 to Cupcakes of Hope, so that they can keep on helping kids and teens like Nisha
