COVID-19 MEDIA RELEASE

Everything we do at Mugg & Bean has always been, and always will be about YOU. In this spirit, we have heeded our President and government’s call to lock down society over the last few weeks in response to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. We salute and appreciate the strong leadership from the President and other leaders to “flatten the curve”, and give our frontline healthcare workers and facilities time to prepare for this pandemic. We also thank our frontline healthcare workers who selflessly work around the clock to manage this real threat to all of us.

With the introduction of 5 pandemic alert levels, and the easing to level 4 from 1 May – we have received notes of excitement from our customers eager to enjoy their favourite coffee, meals and baked treats from Mugg & Bean once again.

While we are eager to get our chefs, bakers, baristas and other Mugg & Bean family members back to generously serving our customers again, the reality is that under “delivery-only” trading conditions, this is not possible for most of our restaurants and On-The-Moves. With our support, every Mugg & Bean franchisee has been evaluating the feasibility of re-opening for delivery only under Level 4 conditions, and only restaurants that are successful in obtaining financial support in the form of (amongst others) rent relief, will be in a position to re-open without incurring further losses.

We have also updated our safety and hygiene operating standards and procedures to align with best practice requirements from the Health Ministry, as well as industry bodies. You can be assured that both Mugg & Bean restaurants and our delivery partners will adhere to the strictest hygiene standards and procedures all the way from order processing to delivery - to minimize the potential spread of the virus.

A workplace plan that covers the Covid 19 regulations has been implemented, these include:

  • Limited staff complement at all times, with no overlapping shifts or non-essential staff (to limit contact and encourage social distancing)
  • All staff are screened for symptoms at the beginning of each shift (including temperature checking). Staff that record symptoms are isolated and immediately sent for follow up testing and, if necessary, further treatment and isolation
  • All staff on site will wear face masks or full face covers at all times
  • Strict hand washing and sanitation routines enforced. All back of house staff wash every 20 minutes as well as after every time they have touched raw and cooked foods, packaging, surfaces, and going to the wash room
  • Limited contact with delivery couriers – including not allowing delivery couriers into the restaurant without a face mask, no more than 2 deep queuing at a time, and limited talking
  • Contactless delivery from our delivery partners, where customers can leave a note for their food to be left at their doorstep
  • Delivery partners only accepting payment by debit or credit card
  • Delivery couriers washing and sanitizing their hands at regular intervals.

Please continue to stay home, stay safe and continue to demonstrate the spirit of generosity that we know you share with us.
