More and more
Heritage Day is about more than just history. Yes, our history is important, but our heritage covers so much more. It’s what’s shaped us into who we are today and what gives us a view to our future. When we think about our heritage, we always come back to the thing that’s defined us since the first day we opened our doors at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town all the way back in 1996: generosity.
We celebrate our generous heritage as well as our South African heritage through the meals on our menu. Whether we’re adding a local twist to an international dish or adding our generous flair to a local favourite, you always get to enjoy more and more South African flavour with us. Keep reading for our top meal and drink recommendations to enjoy at our restaurants this Heritage Day.
to start Heritage Day
We know that Heritage Day is a public holiday and you’ll probably want to sleep in. That’s why we serve breakfast all day! So, no matter what time you wake up on Heritage Day, you can still come enjoy a generous breakfast.
Boerewors is a uniquely South African food that was first cooked in the 17th century. In the 400 years since then it’s become a braai staple enjoyed by everybody. We’ve added this distinctly local flavour to two of our breakfasts. The first is our South African Farm Breakfast, which comes with two eggs made just the way you like them, back bacon, a hash brown, grilled tomato and boerewors topped with tomato chutney.
We love adding a local twist to an international favourite, like we’ve done with our South African Eggs Benedict. It’s got all the elements of a classic Eggs Benedict, with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce on a toasted English muffin, but we’ve taken it to the next level by adding a boerewors patty and corn chakalaka.
Or, if you prefer a vegetarian breakfast, go for our Spicy Beans on Toast. Created in partnership with Chef Mokgadi, this dish was inspired by the breakfast her mom used to make every Sunday morning. In Chef Mokgadi’s words: “It’s a dish that makes you feel full, like a hug.”

Some people call 24 September Braai Day. There’s nothing that can bring South Africans together quite like a fire, meat, good company. This Braai Day, put down the tongs and let us make you our delicious Local Braai Plate. It’s a hearty meal with a rosemary and lemon lamb loin chop, spiced jerk chicken skewers, BBQ basted boerewors, a cheese and tomato braai broodjie on sourdough bread, and creamy coleslaw or potato salad on the side. You get the best of the braai with none of the effort!
Or, enjoy the foods that our ancestors ate centuries ago with our Summer Nourish Salad. The star of the show in this dish is sorghum. Humans first ate sorghum in the Sahara over 10,000 years ago, and we’ve been growing it as a crop for over 5,000 years.
Our Summer Nourish Salad was also created in partnership with Chef Mokgadi and she describes it as “a flavourful summer salad that showcases the versatility of the sorghum grain.”
drinks and treats
Make it more than a meal with our delicious range of drinks and indulgent freshly baked treats. Stay refreshed with our Bottomless Fruity Fizzes or go for a local classic with our Peppermint Crisp® Summer Shake.
When it comes to dessert, Lemon Meringue may have originated in the USA, but we like to think we’ve perfected the recipe.
